They believe that by breaking down physical class divisions, children can be taught to live with intellectual curiosity, self-confidence and communally responsible behavior.

Did you know, Children need motivation/guidance to learn? This would be great for colleges, but at 7 years old, no help is being done for the children. For example, at Montessori schools (I’ve had a couple of friends volunteer at some) the kids have absolutely no idea what’s going on if they don’t have the proper focus. The teachers just sit there and expect them to learn the material, as if we were, as put by Plato, simply recollecting the information. Personally, I think structured instruction is needed until college, and even then, it’s a good thing.

I disagree, I went to a Montessori school and the teachers do not just sit there and wait for you to learn the material, they guide you through the learning process, giving the basics, helping out when needed and assigning problems to solve and projects. The Montessori method is planed to encourage and promote curiosity in kids so that they can learn stuff by themselves using the adequate materials, which are designed for that purpose, and always with the correct guidance of the teachers. But by no means, at least in theory (the way the method is applied around the world is a whole other subject), the method assumes that the kids are going to simply learn all the stuff by themselves with no support and proper guidance.
